Propane tanks for standby generators
The Short AnswerIf your home doesn't have natural gas, your standby generator can run on propane instead. We set a propane tank on your property, connect it to the generator, and handle the permits. James sizes the tank with you on the free site visit, based on your generator and how long you want it to run between fills.

No gas line? No problem
Backup power for any home
Many homes around Atlanta, especially on larger lots outside the city, don't have a natural gas line. A propane tank gives your generator its own fuel supply right on your property.
Generac home standby generators run on either natural gas or propane, so you get the same automatic backup power either way.

What to expect
How a propane install works
We find a spot for the tank that meets code and keeps the gas line run reasonable. Then we connect the tank to your generator and test everything together.
Once it's set, you'll keep the tank filled through a propane company, just like you would for a propane grill or furnace.
- Tank sized to your generator
- Placement that meets code
- Gas connection to the generator
- Permits and inspection handled
Questions about propane tank installation
Your generator questions, answered
How long will a propane tank run my generator?
It depends on the size of the tank, the size of the generator and how much of your home is running. James walks you through it when he sizes the tank.
Natural gas or propane: which is better?
If you already have natural gas, it's usually the simplest choice because you never refuel. If you don't, propane works well. Read our comparison.
Who fills the tank?
You'll set up deliveries with a propane company of your choice.
Do I need a permit?
Yes. We pull it and schedule the inspection.
